You really should know who
MACK SENNETT (1880-1960) is! Mack Sennett was the original King of Comedy, founding Keystone Pictures solely to make comedies. He discovered talents like Charlie Chaplin, Mabel Normand, Roscoe Arbuckle and others. The Keystone Kops were his most memorable creation. Sennett was actor, director and producer. He produced all listed below.
A fine place to start is by viewing:
Bangville Police (1913). The Keystone Kops first appeared in this madcap comedy. Mabel Normand is as lovely as ever.
Watch this and then see these other four films.
Making A Living (1914) This was Chaplin's first film, before he created the Little Tramp. It is typical madcap Keystone madness as he competes with a rival photographer for the girl.
Barney Oldfield's Race For Life (1913) Barney Oldfield was the most famous race car driver of the time. Here he rescues Mabel Normand who has been tied to the railroad tracks by villain Ford Sterling.
The Pharmacist (1933) Mack gave W. C. Fields the opportunity to bring his Vaudeville material to the screen, launching "the great man's" career. Very funny comedy.
I Surrender Dear (1934) Bing Crosby got his start in films with Mack Sennett. This one was tied in with his first hit song.
