LEWIS HAMILTON WINS 50TH POLE IN AUSTRALIA AS NEW FORMULA 1 QUALIFYING FORMAT IS SLAMMED

Reigning Formula 1 World champion Lewis Hamilton is back to business and starting the new season on a great note. He took pole position at Australian Grand Prix on Saturday, 19th March ahead of tommorrow's race.
Lewis took the pole with a time of 1 minute, 23.837 seconds at Albert Park circuit in Melbourne, three-tenths of a second faster than Mercedes teammate, Nico Rosberg.

Mercedes have started their dominance of the race like they did most part of 2015.

Sebastian Vettell and Kimi Raikonnen of Ferrari took third and fourth positions.

The new format for qualification in the first qualifying session which rolled out eliminations every 90 seconds caused a lot of confusion and in the third segment which decided the top end of the grid for Sunday's race, most drivers decided not to go on the track but to save their tyres for tommorrow's race which saw fans underwhelmed and streaming out of the venue.

On the new qualifying system, Mercedes Chairman, Toto Wolff had this to say,

"The new qualifying format was pretty rubbish. Everyone is trying to do their best to improve the show but it made it worse, then you need to sit down and say what can be done, can you come back and that discussion is going to take place".

His opinion sums up the opinions of Red Bull team Boss, Christian Horner who called for revision of the format before the next Grand Prix, Bahrain Grand Prix and went further to say that apologies should be tendered to the fans.

Lewis Hamilton who took pole position also slammed the new qualifying format but advocated that they should not return to the old format which they have been using for years.

We are team Lewis Hamilton. We wish him the best on Sunday!!
