While it seems as though Gomez has used her near-death experience to reconnect with old friends (she was spotted with fellow Disney kid Demi Lovato for the first time in years on Tuesday night), I'm just going to put it out there: I don't like this Bieber thing one. little. bit.
Gomez and Bieber ended their on-off relationship in 2014, after around three years together. They first met in 2009, after their mums set them up on a date (yes, really), but the relationship wasn't made official until 2011 when they attended Vanity Fair's Oscar's Party together.
It's safe to say, the then-teenagers were each other's first loves – official when Bieber was just 17 and Gomez 19.
"I moved in with my girlfriend when I was 18. Started my own life with her. It was a marriage kind of thing," Bieber later told Complex. "We were so in love. Nothing else mattered," he continued.
Their relationship was a classic teenage romance filled with breakups and posted-then-deleted social media blasts. They were each linked to other high-profile celebrities, with a slew of cheating rumours plaguing them (read: Bieber) for years.
Eventually, they called things off for good at the end of 2014, but things stayed messy throughout 2015 and until as recently as August of last year.
That's right, in 2016 there were still feelings there.
First, Bieber posted an old photo of him kissing Gomez to Instagram, and to confuse things even further, she commented "perfect" on it.
Five months later, Bieber went public with then-girlfriend Sofia Richie and Gomez had a very public rant on an Instagram photo of the pair, revealing for the first time that Bieber had cheated on her "multiple times".
She swiftly cancelled her world tour and checked herself into rehab, citing anxiety and depression as the reason, where she went without her phone for 90 days. Bieber reacted by deleting his Instagram account for six months.
Fast-forward to the present day and Gomez is seemingly in a happy relationship with singer The Weeknd (nee Abel Tesfaye), her first public relationship since Bieber.
The Weeknd is reportedly well aware of his girlfriend spending time with her ex and is fine with it, but honestly, I doubt he's as fine about it as he's apparently acting. Seriously, who would be?!
It's been just one year since Gomez publically acknowledged her feelings for Bieber – feelings that were so strong they contributed to her getting professional help for her mental health. Bieber has publically said multiple times he will always love Gomez – even once saying he wished he'd met her five years later in life.
Not to mention, mere months before he was spotted at Gomez's house, Bieber released a song titled 'Friends' with lyrics, 'do you wonder why I've been callin'?' and 'can we still be friends?'. In that same song, which is almost definitely about Gomez, Biebs sounds like he still has feelings for whoever it's about (read: Selena) when he sings 'wonderin' if you think about me, actually, don't answer that.'
It seems obvious these two will always have a "thing" for each other, and it seems even more obvious that Bieber's motives aren't purely to be friends with Gomez, especially since he bagged her current boyfriend when their relationship first went public (what kind of a friend does that?)
In my humble opinion, he should back off and leave Gomez alone – she seems happier and healthier than we've seen her in a long time, she has a supportive and loving partner, and the last thing she needs is her cheating ex-boyfriend trying to drag her back down.
Biebs, haven't you ever heard the saying 'if you love someone, let them go'?
